Discipleship Committee

“Go and make disciples of all nations…”
– Jesus to the Apostles

In keeping with Our Lord’s word in the Great Commission, we believe that every human being is called to be a disciple of Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church. The St. Philip Discipleship Committee exists to foster discipleship within the parish and its various ministries so that all may “have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Our Discipleship poster is to help us remember that as an umbrella covers us in the rain, prayer covers us against tough and trying times. Just remember these simple basics:

  • Word

By reading the word of God and letting it transform us and give us strength, love and hope.

  • Worship

By coming to mass every Sunday and praying all the time.

  • Community

We help each other, which helps our parish, which helps our community.

  • Service

When you join or participate in a ministry or event you are serving others.

Our Plan

Discipleship Plan

The Discipleship Committee developed a Spiritual (Action) Plan to address Vatican II Council’s dream that we might all live more intensely with Jesus. This Discipleship Plan (found in the link below) utilizes Word, Worship, Community and Service as a guide to assist St. Philip parishioners in their journey to follow Jesus Christ:

Discipling Opportunities at St. Philip Catholic Church

The Discipling Opportunities (links below in English and Spanish) provide guidance to parishioners on being disciples of Jesus Christ as we “joyfully celebrate the Eucharist as a community and share and proclaim the the Word of God with our neighbors.”

In 2014, the parish sponsored numerous studies of Sherry Weddell’s Forming Intentional Disciples. Fr. Robert Barron has provided an outstanding summary of this book.

How individual Catholics have been impacted by a renewed focus on discipleship.
