What is Eucharistic Adoration?

Eucharistic Adoration is a fundamental spiritual practice of our faith, centered on the worship and adoration of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Through this sacred devotion, the faithful are invited into deep prayer, meditation, and quiet contemplation before the Eucharist, affirming our belief in the Real Presence of Jesus Christ – Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. Our Lord himself declares: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven” (John 6:51).

In Eucharistic Adoration, we respond to this divine invitation by remaining with Him, listening to His voice, and allowing His grace to transform our hearts. This devotion began in the early Christian community and slowly grew over time. By the sixth century, monks were showing deep reverence for the Eucharist through the gestures of kneeling and prostration. These practices became more common in the centuries that followed. A major moment came in the thirteenth century with the Feast of Corpus Christi, which helped bring public devotion to the Eucharist through processions and prayer. Saints Francis of Assisi and Thomas Aquinas also played an important role in helping the Church recognize the Eucharist as the heart of the Christian spiritual life.
